EXHIBITIONS MADELEINE PRESTON: Great Wall
20.08.12 to 15.09.12
Madeleine Preston's Great Wall is a part of her ongoing project about memory and the nature of nostalgia. Like the Great Wall of China to which the work refers, the wall is a barrier, albeit an easily breached one. The wall constructed with nails, wood and string is neither great nor impregnable. The forms are only suggestive of a barrier. The barrier here is between how an object or experience is lived and how it is remembered.
