EXHIBITIONS    LIZ KREUGER: BELOW THE LINE

Below the Line is Liz Kreuger's inaugural show. Begun a few years ago after her mother’s unexpected passing, this body of work arose as a way of dealing with her grief. The work presented in this show reflects a progressive process of refinement of the initial markings made at this time. The resulting bold, colourful, and elegant, floating and folding forms are not specifically figurative images but index a specific time frame and a particular state of mind, evoking the quiet moments of production when the house is still. The act of patiently making marks seen in Liz’s larger works capture the patience, rhythm, and discipline of production.

For Liz, the initial act of mark-making is a venture into the unknown, mediating an intuitive way of working disciplined by the guidelines she sets for herself. Ultimately, Liz’s art practice is an interrogation into the question of knowing when to stop.
