Polyp - a collection of playful garments, accessories and sculptures from their recent collaboration.

Motivated by the beauty and fragility of corals and underwater ecosystems, they have used recycled materials to create elaborate embroideries and undulating textured fabrics.

Blurring lines between couture and costume these easy-wear sculptural dresses, tops, bags and jackets focus on texture and pattern over simple silhouettes.

Polyp is the third collaborative project between visual artists Lotte Schwerdtfeger and Louise Meuwissen, who have previously worked intensely together to create large textile installations. Polyp is a change of direction from their previous collaborative relationship. Initiated from shared themes in their individual practices, Lotte and Louise spent two weeks at the Portland Artist Residency, Victoria. There, they set parameters for materials, colours and style, developing biomorphic textile techniques and patterns. Over the following three months they have created the pieces now brought together in their first fashion collection, a testament to their shared vision and style.

Lotte Schwerdtfeger is a multi-media artist investigating ties between ritual, domesticity, identity and cultural notions of craft and art making. She creates detailed installations, clothing, sculptures, trinkets, jewellery, print media and paintings, working impulsively and intuitively in a holistic studio practice. Her work is driven by finding, collecting and reusing; textiles, clay, trash and natural materials.
